Het Madden, A Zombie Perspective: Book One: WRATH 2012 by Calvin A. L. Miller II

This book is “a tale from the zombie’s point of view”. It’s a story of reflection, especially in these difficult times. Similar to Kafka’s Metamorphosis, a parallel can be drawn in this man, Hetfield Madden, an “Everyman”, who becomes (at least at first) something less than he formerly was; Due to both situations not under his control and those resulting directly from his actions. He loses everything, including his family, his life, and quite possible his soul, but eventually rises up and conquers his demons (literally) and gets his son back. This is a story for the times, written in a highly visual style complete with a dark sense of humor. Gore and intrigue combined with political, religious, and spiritual undertones has you cheering for the zombie, and understanding his anger, while reveling in his disgust… with the world, but more importantly, with himself. The tone of the book is one of underlying anger and hatred of a government system that has left millions of infected people to die. Mr. Madden, and the rest of these “zombies” aren’t mindless at all. In fact they view themselves as sick… diseased… and the anger they have toward the “healthy” population is fueled by the cruel way they are treated. They are herded into interment camps, their humanity stripped from them. Het’s uncontrollable urge to kill and feed on these “Healthies” scares and disgusts him at first, but he later uses this near immortality and the countless number of fellow infected to find out why society will not help them, and who is responsible. The answer is quite unexpected. The religious aspect is also examined, and becomes a major part of the story in the final chapters as Heaven and Hell literally cease to exist. This book is intended to be fast-paced, illustrating how a man will not be ignored by a Government that doesn’t understand, or even care to, and that in the end right wins over wrong, good over evil.
