REVIEW: The Blooming by Tonia Brown

We try to keep everyone up to date with zombie movies, zombie news, zombie book etc. The Blooming is an erotic zombie novella written by the lovely Tonia Brown. She is a wonderful writer and an overall nice lady.
The Blooming begins with our protagonist Jill and her filming company Up the Hill. They have just landed on an island where they were hired to follow Dr. Lowing on his exploration. As the filming staff prepares the equipment they discover that some of the equipment they need is missing. Jill uncovers that Dr. Lowing is to blame, leaving some of her equipment behind to make room for his own. Jill sends the plane back to retrieve the batteries leaving Up the Hill stranded.
Two of the crew members Darrel and Linda discover a beautiful looking bloom. Once exposed to the flower it does something to them. They are overwhelmed with an uncontainable desire to climax. The two turn into vicious animals as they make love, they bite each other to the point of drawing blood. The next morning they wake to find themselves sore and bruised. The couple tries to keep their night a secret and being to head back to camp. The doctor notices a flower pinned to Linda’s hair and is instantly excited. This flower is the reason why he came to this island. The crew grabs their equipment and begins filming the exploration. Everyone is exposed to this mysterious bloom and they all feel the urge to have sex. As a joke one of the crew members, Kyle, is pushed into the bloom. The suffocating aroma of the bloom makes his asthma act up. He is taken back to the campsite where he slowly dies. Before his last breath he vowed to get back at the crew.
The next morning Kyle’s body is gone. The crew searches for him and is found but now is a member of the undead. The bloom’s power brought him back to life to feast on the flesh of his former co-workers. Dr. Lowing didn’t tell the whole truth. He knows the true power of this bloom but decided to keep it to himself putting the crew’s lives in jeopardy. With a zombie running around and more zombies to come the crew struggles to survive while trying to fight the yearning to achieve an orgasm.
That’s as much description I can give without giving away the whole story. The Blooming was a satisfactory read. The plot was good and characters were well thought out but the story is missing something. The beginning was a bit hard to follow but it clears up a third into the novella. One excellent feature this book has is that I did not spot one spelling mistake. The dialogue was a bit rough at times but the story makes up for that.. The love scenes could have used a bit more detail.
Above all The Blooming was an enjoyable read. As my first erotic tale I would have to say it did the trick. Unless there is another erotic book out there with zombies I don’t think I’ll read another one. Buyzombie.com loves helping authors get their material out to the public.
