So Much News Every Week And We’re STILL Excited For The Walking Dead!

Actually this week there has only been a LITTLE news from this highly anticipated zombies series. So what do we have this week to show you? Well 2 interviews, a roundup of the series itself, and a SLEW of new pictures which I’m sure will be your favorite part so we’ll hold that off till last.

Interviews Of The Walking Dead

First up we have an interview with Greg Nicotero who is the special effects makeup designer that is bringing us all of these wonderful looking zombies! You may recognize the name and a bit of the style – The very first question will remind you exactly why this is a zombie creator you should know and love!

Q: You’ve been creating zombies for George Romero for years. What made you want to tackle The Walking Dead?
A: I’ve been best friends with Frank Darabont since before he directed The Shawshank Redemption, and we share a similar interest and nostalgic devotion to George Romero and Night of the Living Dead. We started talking about this project probably three or four years ago, when Frank was talking about wanting to do something different with zombies, and what we could do to make these guys look fresh and original. And from then on, it’s just been like, Hey man! We get to create zombies!

Q: How do these zombies differ from the ones you created for Romero?
A: We used the graphic novel certainly as inspiration. We’ve always tried to push the envelope, and because I’ve done so many other projects it’s always one of those things where you finish a movie and go, “Oh man next time I know how we can make it better. And after that I know how we can make it even better than that.” We’ve taken everything that we’ve learned on all these other projects, and applied them in terms of using new materials and new techniques – even something as simple as a zombie getting shot in the head: We really sat down and worked through the best way to make that look realistic and practical.

The second is actually more of an overview of The Walking Dead with some quotes that are clearly from a direct interview with Kirkman about how he feels about the idea of bringing his work to another form of media.

It’s definitely been difficult, but I hated when someone gets their comic book turned into something and then falls off the face of the Earth and the comic book stops coming out,” Kirkman says. “I’m making a point to keep Charlie in script and get the book out on time, so we can be the first comic book in history that’s gotten adapted into a television show or a movie and actually continue production without a hiccup. We’re hoping to have 12 issues out this year, and I want to reward the fans who got us here by continuing to put our book out.

Seriously how awesome is that? He’s really paid attention to what happens when comic media has been adapted to screen so far. You can read the full writeup at USA Today!

A Writeup And A Possible Award

Basically this was a great excuse for Comic Attack to put together one of the better writeups of The Walking Dead that I’ve seen so far. Why though? Because the comic’s an Eisner Award Nominee! HELL YEA! You can read the full story at Comic Attack!

Let’s Face It. This Is Why You Are Here

You want to see pretty pictures of zombies. You sick bastards. (Or are we the sick ones for making you wait until the very end of the post to see this new hotness? Yes we’re bastards. Can’t be helped!)
