The Weekly Walking Dead News

The last 2 weeks have felt bone dry of The Walking Dead news after how much came out around a certain little comic convention. Even so it hasn’t all been quiet and here is the latest (worthwhile) news about the upcoming television zombie epic!

Interviews

Well the first interview is actually from last week but as it’s the only worthwhile piece of The Walking Dead news from last week I pushed it back:

Interview with Emma Bell

CBRWere you familiar at all with the series before joining the cast?

EmmaNo. It’s funny, because I booked it and had read the script and thought, “This is amazing. This is so cool. I love this. It’s so well-written!” When I booked it, I was like, great. But I had no idea until I went to New York City – I’m from the east coast – and when I went back home, I was having lunch with my friend and she was like, “What are you working on now?” And I said, “Oh, I just booked this thing for AMC. It’s called ‘The Walking Dead.’ I don’t know.” She like spit out her food, slammed her drink down on the table and was like, “Get out of here. That is my favorite comic book of all time. Do you know how big that comic book is?” And I was like, “No.” Then I went and bought all of them and I read them and was like, “Wow.” As I was reading it, of course it was made into a TV show. It really lends itself to the screen.

Interview with Cinematographer David Boyd

AMC: Horror movies usually take place at night. This series takes place mostly during the day. What are the challenges to that?

David: I think the challenges are to just get the idea that there’s something to be afraid of around every corner. Because it’s daylight you’re not normally scared — we’re scared at night. But the levels of this are brilliantly laid out by Frank: The rooftop is a little safer than street level, street level is really terrifying, and below street level gets safer. So the scary places start to be the safe places, and the safe places start to be the scary places.
