Rising From The Tempest – Free Online Serial Novel

I really should have made Lyle write about this one. You know that guy who occasionally does book reviews for us? Well anyone who follows the site knows that he is also an aspiring author with 1 anthology and 1 other novel out.

So now he’s releasing a free online serial novel to the masses. Rising From The Tempest is the name and giving you a free section of the novel every Monday is the game! So far only the prologue and first 2 chapters are up so if you need to read everything at once you may want to wait a bit but if not you can get in on it right away!

I have included the prologue to wet your appetite but you’ll have to head over to the official page for the rest!

Prologue

The event that took place on October 19, 2010 became known as, The Raging Storm. There was no explanation for what occurred. There was no warning. The day before, a local meteorologist predicted a sunny California day, but instead, the residents of Saline Springs woke up to an immense black cloud blanketing the entire sky. At first, no one knew anything was wrong, but at precisely nine o’clock in the morning, lightning began to strike.

Huge, bright purple fingers of electricity shot out of the sky in every direction. One after another, the lightning bolts continued to strike–thunder chasing each flash. The ringing echoed in the ears of the lucky individuals inside buildings. Everyone caught outside when the storm began, died as they were struck by bolts of lightning. An hour after the storm began, it subsided. The blinding flashes and booming rumbles calmed when there were no more living, moving bodies to strike.

Charred human remains plagued the city streets. People looked out of the building windows in shock. The scene beyond the glass resembled a battlefield. Some brave individuals left the safety of the buildings, only to be stuck dead where they stood. After the first few victims’ lives were taken, no one dared leave their shelter.

The people inside an office building stared at the mangled mass of bodies–their minds reeling with questions and hopelessness. From afar, they began to smell wet asphalt. Rain poured down from the heavens, lightly at first, then as harshly as a category five hurricane. Winds roared through the city streets, overturning trees and power lines. The downpour and winds only lasted ten minutes, but the aftermath was devastating. The remains of the dead were covered in dirty, mucky water. The living, safe inside the Bakker & Sons office building, stared in horror at the devastation. There was no where for them to go. Little did they know, their lives were about to change forever as the first corpse moved.
