The Awakening is the name of this zombie themed drama
The CW is known for a lot of TV drama shows. Things like Smallville, Nikita, 90210, America’s Next Top Model, and One Tree Hill. Things the majority of our readers here would not watch. Now I can’t speak for all of you but this kind of drama and lovers of horror, specially the undead, don’t tend to go hand in hand.
It is however also home to Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries which his a ‘small’ segway into the realm of paranormal. Sure it’s a stretch to say it’s the same viewer-ship as a show like The Walking Dead but it is at least a partial level of the same ‘kind’ of show.
Even with that being the case it’s kind of a shocker that the CW has picked up a zombie themed drama. Zombies aren’t that well known for being able to cut down on the gore enough to interest a full TV network. The Walking Dead is no exception though it premiered on a network known to push the boundaries of what would be shown in a normal television show. Breaking Bad and Madmen are both violent and racy in their own ways and it makes sense that a show about the end of the world would be able to be released there and do well.
We’re talking about a zombie show that will be on the same network as America’s Next Top model. While on the one hand ‘m happy to see more zombies on the ‘small’ screen I just can’t see how they will be able to tone this one down enough for it to work there and succeed wit horror fans.
So what we’re going to be seen is a show called The Awakening which was written by Canadian writer-producers William Laurin and Glenn Davis (The Listener). The plot involves two sisters who are just becoming women and are at odds with each other while the zombie apocalypse starts to occur. I can’t even imagine how this is going to pan out. I do like the IDEA of regular stories being told during a zombie outbreak but I’m just not sure how I feel about this one.
