Timur Bekmambetov Picks Up Rights For Maggie
Well first off some of you may be asking who the hell is Timur Bekmambetov and why should you care? Well let me tell you a little something about Timur. He made his mark in horror by bringing forth a Russian vampire franchise known as Night Watch that did fairly well. He’s also worked on 9, Wanted, and is working on Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Wanted 2. Basically this is a film that will probably be worth at the very least 1 watch and most likely more.
So what’s Maggie all about? Well I’m glad you asked! Deadline found out a slew of information, most importantly that being – the plot.
Maggie is a 16-year old girl from a town in middle America who becomes infected by a zombie. Much the way that Danny Boyle changed the lumbering zombie stereotype by speeding up the undead in 28 Days Later, Maggie changes the lightning quick infection period evident in most zombie films, where victims become zombies in minutes. It will take six weeks for Maggie to turn, and the film tracks the transformation as she stays with her family.
While the idea of a person slowly turning into a zombie isn’t completely original it’s one that hasn’t been done to death and could be a fun viewing (specially with the directing/producing staff involved.)
