Zombie Hood July 2011 Update
Zombie Hood is, as always, happy to share us with the latest production notes on how their film is coming together. That means we’re happy to share them with you! There is a lot of information on a few scenes that were worked on as well as “equipment” used in the film which you should enjoy.
June was a scorcher of a month and whilst you have been topping up your tan and having fun in the sun, the Zombie Hood crew have been working hard on interior shoots during the hottest days of the year. The whole crew are managing to maintain their pale zombie like complexions by filming in possibly the most cramped conditions, missing out on the sunshine and even the fresh air as we have to keep all windows shut because of all the damn noise ruining our sound. But as always the suffering and dedication of our crew has paid off and we now have three more scenes in the can.
June saw us film two cut scenes which are fun little moments as they enable us to see what has happened to our lead characters family and friends. As you can imagine they may possibly have contained a zombie attack or two. Our first cut scene featured Sam’s Mum and is directly connected to his opening scene so it’s an interesting little insight to part of Sam’s back story. The second cut scene involved Dermott’s blind brother, and without going into any further detail it’s fairly obvious that it might be quite a suspenseful scene as our character fumbles around his cluttered flat. There was quite a disgusting effect utilising a sausage but you’ll just have to wait for the release to see just what we mean by that.
The cut scenes were great fun, with fantastic performances from our cast again but possibly the most enjoyable shoot took place during the first weekend of July. As usual we chose a ridiculously hot weekend to shoot Sam’s opening scene, a lot of which took place in a kitchen which seemed to shrink once we filled it with crew members. But the uncomfortable conditions did not dampen anyone’s excitement for the ‘gore canon’, or rather the ‘gore canon mark II’ as it exceeded the performance of the one we used on the shoot last month by miles. The gore canon death scene is going to be one of our finest effects in the entire film so we can’t ruin the specifics for you. But we can entice you by saying walls were covered in blood, it was literally dripping from the ceiling and our poor actress even had chunks of flesh in her hair. This is the kind of effect that most films now use CGI for but you can never beat using practical effects when gore’s involved. Although it did mean we only had one shot to nail it as it would have been impossible to reset it once the walls were painted red. But we did and it’s easily the most impressive gore shot we’ve filmed yet and this scene is only for the first half of the film so things can only get better from here.
July already has a couple of scenes scheduled in so we really hope to keep this momentum going as we seem to be on a roll at the moment. We already have final edits of previously filmed scenes completed so it’s all going on in post production too.
