An Interview With Marc Forster Gives Us Depressing News On World War Z

Marc Forster recently did an interview with MTV that has let me pretty much lose my last hope that World War Z will be about World War Z.

Let me explain. While I still think it will be a great ZOMBIE movie, both visually, story line, and acting wise. I love the director, the cast, the budget. It’s not going to be about the best selling novel that we all love called World War Z.

Basically they bought the rights to use the name and that’s it. Not a true believer of the all knowing self proclaimed zombie king? Well let’s dive into the juicy part of the interview shall we?

The idea, obviously the book is not written as a narrative, you try to take things from the book, but at same time you’re changing certain things. I do feel we’re trying to keep it in the spirit of the book because it’s important. We are doing our own film, telling our own story because we had to. But trying to still include as much as we can from the book.

Followed by his view on the book using slow zombies and movie using fast zombies.

In Max Brook’s book they move in the George Romero fashion. I feel like we have a little bit different approach. But it doesn’t exclude that they might not eventually be fashioned how George Romero’s zombies move, it’s just a little bit different approach. I think that will probably be the biggest discussions that there will be.

Still with me? Good. Outraged if you are a fan of World War Z? Even better. Let’s do the breakdown shall we?

The idea, obviously the book is not written as a narrative, you try to take things from the book, but at same time you’re changing certain things.

It’s not written as a narrative? What? It’s AN ORAL HISTORY of the zombie outbreak. How is that not a narrative? Have you READ the book that you are making a movie of?!

I do feel we’re trying to keep it in the spirit of the book because it’s important. We are doing our own film, telling our own story because we had to. But trying to still include as much as we can from the book.

You mean the book that you clearly didn’t read according to the first statement? The one you sank a boatload of cash into acquiring the rights for? FACEPALM friends. Face. To. The. Palm.

In Max Brook’s book they move in the George Romero fashion. I feel like we have a little bit different approach.

Why? Because the Day of the Dead remake had fast zombies? The terror is from shamblers being in situations that you can’t do anything about AND being in situations that you CAN. To tell the story of people who CAN fight back.

It’s just frustrating. World War Z was phenomenal. Again, I’m positive this movie will be a great zombie movie. I just think they need to change it’s name. “The movie formally inspired by the author of World War Z” … with a symbol next to it.
