Jamie McGowan is on a mission to let us know that the Zombie Apocalypse Now In A Minute! be one of the best web comics to come out in the near future. So. Clearly from the previous the art is fantastic. What about the actual comic itself? We haven’t had a chance to read it quite yet (preview on the way soon) but we do have some insight from Jamie!
So where did the inspiration for Zombie Apocalypse Now In A Minute! come from?
Cardiff, the Capital city of Wales explodes to life in a wash of colour and excitement every year as it host the Rugby 6 Nations championships. Wales is Rugby mad and nearly 200,000 people descend on the city for an all day drinking session of epic proportions… by the end of the day the streets are littered with sunken eyes, staggering, lonely figures. Clad in red jerseys and many of them bearing war wounds from the days drinking, these drunks staggers from wall to wall looking for food or a taxi home… It is reminiscent of a Zombie movie…. My inspiration for Zombie Apocalypse Now In A Minute.
What other zombies inspired it and how exactly do the survivors… survive?
Taking elements from the Walking Dead, Hellboy and Shaun of the Dead, I hope to tell the story of a walking dead pandemic sweeping the Welsh capital on of these Rugby match days. We follow Keith, an overweight, sarcastic bartender who is surviving the infected by hiding out in Cardiff Castle. The Castle offers excellent siege protection, a moat, running water and weapons…lots of kick-ass Medieval weapons. Keith meets up with a suspicious French survivor named Thierry Mendes, The Frenchman seems to know a little bit too much about the pandemic, particularly on how to dispose of them… with Thierrys expertise and Keith strange aptitude with axes, maces and broadswords they set off into Cardiff in search of survivors.
How long term is the comic being planned?
As the story unfolds we see many other crazy and interesting characters and find out that Wales has been put into quarantine by the rest of the UK. We follow the characters as they fight through the Welsh countryside trying to reach the English border and perceived safety.
So hows it going to be distributed for us all to see?
Zombie Apocalypse Now In A Minute will be a webcomic initially and we shall look to garner support and interest from their.
This one looks to have a chance to be highly entertaining and at the very least looks great so we’ll give you more updates as they come our way!
