The Walking Dead took this years Emmy for outstanding prosthetic makeup. Surprising? Not at all as their zombies are top notch. While most of their competition wasn’t nearly as impressive they pulled off a big win by taking on Game of Thrones who I would argue is just as good.
This weekend, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences held the 2012 Creative Arts Emmys, and The Walking Dead was honored with the award for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for the Season 2 Premiere “What Lies Ahead”.
The award — the second Emmy for The Walking Dead — was presented to Special FX Makeup Designer and Co-Executive Producer Greg Nicotero and his KNB EFX team, who together bested stiff competition from FX’s American Horror Story, HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, HBO’s Game of Thrones and ABC’s Once Upon A Time.
Mad Men and Breaking Bad are still up for a number of Primetime Emmy Awards across categories such as Outstanding Drama, Best Actor and Best Actress, which will be presented during a ceremony airing Sun., Sep. 23 on ABC.
The Walking Dead returns Sun., Oct. 14 at 9/8c on AMC and is not available on DISH.
