Steve is back with another great update on how Zombie Hood is coming along and I’m happy to share it with you. The film is ever rushing towards being complete and I’ve been dying (and coming back) to see the film with each month’s update on the latest production news!
Post Production…
As I write, the final edit for Zombie Hood is being rendered out for the Post Production team to finish off adding all of the touches, including sound, foley, music, CGI, colour correction and grading, that will put a shine on what is already looking like a pretty good film. We’ve also added a new team members for post production, Sarah Kelly, who will be working alongside David Dwyz Wayman, Darren Maffucci in the sound department. The rest of the post production team is made up of Steve Askey (CGI), Steve Best (Editor) and Susan Hayes (Producer).
It was quite an experience watching the whole film from start to finish the other evening, especially as we began this project over two years ago, but I’m pleased to say that it’s all been worth the blood sweat and tears that have gone into the production. What is really amazing is that a group of people with little or no experience of working on a feature film, have managed to come together with hardly any resources or money, but still managed to pull this off. Normally, with no money as such, you would try and stick to a small cast, basic locations and a few extras, but we really pushed the boat out and went for a massive cast and hundreds of zombies, filming in numerous locations including the city! Total madness, with times I thought to myself, ‘this is crazy, you’ll never pull it off’, but I had the backing of an amazing crew, which meant that anything was possible!
With the majority of micro-budget films, you don’t really expect too much, especially when everyone involved, cast and crew, are all unknown’s in the industry, but the whole team went above and beyond expectations and have managed to create a feature film with exceptionally high production values. However, if you’re expecting a Hollywood blockbuster, you may be a little disappointed as we didn’t have the luxury of closed sets, expensive equipment, years of experience or a big budget to work with, but we did manage to deal with the numerous problems and issues that came our way and I’m pleased to say that we managed to overcome just about all of them.! (Including the British weather!)
I guess we’ve been quite lucky along the way, finding some incredibly talented actors, convincing zombies and enthusiastic extras. We also managed to find a very talented crew, many of whom will go on to bigger and better things, learning from their experiences on Zombie Hood and hopefully putting them to good use in the future. The same applies to many of our actors, who will hopefully benefit from starring in the film and find their fame and fortune in years to come.
But for now, it’s all about Zombie Hood, which is due to Premiere in January 2013 at the Contemporary Arts Centre in Nottingham. If you haven’t already purchased tickets, there are still a few left for the Sunday viewing, so check out the Premiere page on this website for further details.
We’ll continue posting updates on our Facebook page during post production and once the grading and effects have been added, we’ll start work on the much anticipated trailer for the film, hopefully getting it live for you around November time.
We’ve already been contacted by a couple of international film distributors from the USA, so we’ll be working towards getting the film signed up soon after it’s had it’s Premiere, which means in answer to one of the many questions we’ve been asked recently, yes we do expect a DVD release in the UK next year and possibly a cinema run. However, that all depends on how well the film is received by the media, so we’ve still got our work cut out, especially with sound being 60-70% of any movie! (No pressure on the sound team) 🙂
Well, that’s it for this month, but we’ll get another update out to you during October.
