Another couple of potential feathers in The Walking Dead’s cap as it was announced that they are up for not one but two Golden Reel awards! They are up for “Short Form Dialogue from the episode “Better Angels” and Best Sounding Editing for “Beside the Dying Fire.” Honestly as one of the better produced shows on television it should come as no surprise that they are earning so many rewards but even with excellent story telling based on an excellent premise – guys and gals a zombie show is winning all of these awards. It in a way legitimizes our obsession with the undead in a way that nothing else has been able to do.

Today the Motion Picture Sound Editors announced their nominees for the 2013 Golden Reel Awards, and The Walking Dead was honored with two nods for Best Sound Editing: Short Form Dialogue and ADR in Television and Best Sound Editing: Short Form Sound Effects and Foley in Television for the Season 2 episodes “Better Angels” and “Beside the Dying Fire,” respectively.

The Walking Dead — which won the Golden Reel award last year for Best Sound Editing: Long Form Sound Effects and Foley in Television — faces formidable competition for this year’s awards: Competing across both categories are shows like HBO’s Game of Thrones, True Blood and The Newsroom, Showtime’s Homeland and The Borgias, Starz’ BOSS and FX’s American Horror Story.

The 60th annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony will take place Sun., Feb. 17 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.
