Sand beneath your feet and sun in the air it’s clearly a beautiful vacation right? Well it could be if what was before you wasn’t the wreckage of your plane that just crashed before you. Well things could be worse right? Oh that’s right your only company on the island is that woman over there whose… Oh she’s not looking good. In fact she looks like. Yup. She’s a zombie.
This is not a book that you are going to take seriously. Timothy W. Long has put together a hodgepodge of humor and horror with this one. Think of this as more in line with his work with Jonathan Moon, “The Apocalypse and Satan’s Glory Hole†and not his works such as “Among the Living†or “Among the Dead.â€
The entire story is written in a journal as he tells the tale of his survival after the plane wreck. It really draws you into the mind of a seriously delusional character as he tells you about the zombie who’s staying alive on the same island. The island he’s tied to a tree so he doesn’t have to worry about eating him in his sleep. The zombie he’s made into his girlfriend.
Wait. His girlfriend? No don’t worry you aren’t about to get a book chalk full of necrophilia. This Is just some of the twisted sense of humor that the author has and if you like a bit of strangeness with your humor you will love this one. Each chapter starts with him talking about ‘his girlfriend’ but it’s really just the only way he can probably reference her and keep some sense of sanity into his crazy little world.
While our lead character is stuck on the island there will be some other interesting activities going on. It’s not just a story about survival alone (or staying out of reach from a zombie) as there are also natives from a local island as well as zombie sharks to deal with. Zombies vs sharks? Been there, done that. Zombie sharks? Now that’s a fun idea! An idea that Tim pulls off perfectly.
The book is full of a bit of twisted humor, the struggles of being alone and survival. OK really it’s just a hilarious look at a guy stuck on an island with a zombie that survives in some of the craziest ways possible. It’s so abstract and random that you can’t help but keep turning page after page needing to know what happens next.
Is this journal the tale of survival or found long after our lead has died (or been eaten?) Well there’s really only one thing you can do to find that out. Pick up a copy today!
