contaminated

Entertainingly enough the day I finished this book Kevin sent in a Contaminated Review in for me to put up. Far be it from me to review-block one of my favorite reviewers.

Also let’s be honest I feel he’s a better reviewer when he pulls out phrases like “Robb develops her stories much like a spider weaves a web; there are a lot of things going on at once but when you step back and look at the story, you see a well-crafted web of deceit and mystery.” that are just all too fitting for the novel.

Kevin was right though. Suzanne Robb has put together a brilliant spy/science/zombie novel and delivered it to us with a bow on top. Honestly if I had to find a complaint I would say that it was too short. Maybe I was just so into the novel that I had sped through it but reading what happened I had it done in a couple of days. With my current schedule most books take a week to a week and a half these days.

Through the story we are mainly following a scientist, Dr. Arthur Covington, who has put his career on the line and ruined his family in order to pursue his obsession with studying samples from Pluto. He believes they hold the key to changing the fabric of society itself. He fully funds a way for samples to be brought back. When they get back to our planet though they are confiscated by the government as being a biological threat.

Currently secretly employed by the largest corporation in the world they arrange for him to have samples of the rocks for research. He’s whisked away to a secret lab in the middle of the night and the security is on par with The Umbrella Corporation for any Resident Evil fans out there. For those who haven’t followed the gaming or movie series let’s just say it’s over the top in every way.

The problem though is that it just wasn’t enough. From an inside traitor to the company performing corporate espionage to outright sabotage the experiment is blown away. Explosive blown away. The sabotage actually caused a leak so that the Pluto rocks were let out from their safe environment and into the air supply of the building.

As fantastic as the rocks could have been they are now killing and re-animating everyone in the building. Covington, his security and a group of other researchers were in protective suits but can they get to safety before their air runs out? With a horde of zombies, trained mercenaries and the building’s defenses set against the odds are against them. They have to hurry though because one of the building’s defenses is a fail safe that will lock them in and incinerate the evidence to prevent any contamination to the outside world from whatever was being studied in the building’s walls.
