What’s The Z Club About?

RISE OF THE ZOMBIE-KILLING NERDS…

When a Chinese space shuttle carrying mysterious cargo crash lands in the small town of Trudy, Iowa, a group of nerdy horror movie buffs must band together to stop an outbreak that is bringing the dead back to life and turning the rest of the population into brain-eating zombies.

THEY’RE STILL NOT HAPPY ABOUT BEING PICKED ON IN HIGH SCHOOL…

Armed with their considerable knowledge of bad cinema and an ice cream truck full of stolen guns, they will battle the infected to save their town and to keep the outbreak from spreading to the entire world.

TO THE FAINT OF HEART…

This book is full of gore, humor, and more cheesy one-liners than you can shake a stick at.

Our The Z Club Review

In The Z Club J.W. Bouchard has given us a delightful little zombie treat truly was a fun read. While the novel itself starts off a little disjointed once you move past that you quickly will love the chracter interaction and where J.W. takes the book. It’s a book about friends who have grown up together, oh, and a zombie apocalypse that just happens to break out around them.

Trudy, Iowa is a small town where not much happens. The folk that live here go day to day without much thought of a better tomorrow. While not much happens it’s also a mostly peaceful town. That is until a Chinese research space shuttle crashes into the atmosphere and is discovered by local authorities. When a fireman is exposed to the direct wreckage he passes out and is taken to the hospital and that is where the true problems come up.

The core group of friends is 3 men who have been friends since high school: Ryan the police officer, Kevin the heart broken comic book store owner, and Fred the taking over his father’s business loser of a plumber who wanted to be a director. To round out the cast we have Becky (Ryan’s girlfriend who comes from money though isn’t a stuck up snob as he’s clearly worried about), Derek (a complete and total geek that is Kevin’s employee), and Rhonda (Kevin’s crush, a badass who you can’t tell if she’s EMO or goth from the descriptions provided.)

Even without the warnings from Kevin to Becky (whose being introduced to his friends for the first time) you can tell right off the bat the group is full of geeks. They are sitting around talking science fiction and zombies not knowing that all around them the world is falling apart. As the next day begins though their little down has gone to hell in a handbag. The fireman infected in one of the first scenes in the novel has turned into an alien version of the undead and is spreading a zombie plague quickly through the town.

The group is all able to meet up. With the initial plan of trying to save people their plans quickly change. Can they save even themselves let alone the entire time? In a hilarious Breakfast Club-esque comedy we’ll follow them as this band of unlikely heroes set forth to stop the zombie scourge from eradicating their little town.

This was truly a fun read and I look forward to reading more of J.W. Bouchard’s work in the future.
