postapocalyptic-car

Surviving the zombie apocalypse will not be easy. It will require brains, brawn, and more than a little luck. But thankfully, you can increase your chances of survival by coming prepared.  Get you and your car ready with these tips, and you might just have a fighting chance!

  • 1.      Reinforced Windows
  • To survive a zombie attack, you will want to protect your weak points. Windows represent some of the most vulnerable areas of your car, so be sure to guard against possible intrusion.

Install bullet-proof glass, and reinforce your windows with razor wire to prevent easy break-ins from zombies or other desperate survivors. You can bullet-proof your windows by layering polycarbonate materials between sections of ordinary glass.

To be extra cautious, install one-way resistant glass to prevent bullets breaking through from the outside, while still allowing you to shoot back at your zombie assailants from the inside.

  • 2.     Hybrid Generator
  • Though hybrid cars like the Toyota Prius or Honda Fit EV (originally only available in Honda dealers in Los Angeles) may not be the first on your list of apocalypse-ready vehicles, do not write them off just yet. These energy efficient cars will not only save you gas while you escape the zombies, but they can also double as generators.

Purchase a power inverter (for about $100 online) and wire it into the hybrid car. The inverter allows you to run the vehicle for a short period of time (approximately every 30 minutes), automatically converting that gas into electrical power in the battery. The fully charged battery can then be used to supply power to your home or other necessities (e.g. lights, refrigerator, communication devices, medical equipment, etc.).

  • 3.     Grill Spikes
  • Some good old-fashioned spikes are an excellent addition to any zombie-survival-car wannabe. Install spikes, pikes, or other sharp objects to the front grill of the vehicle to deter any aggressive zombies you may encounter on the road.

A few knives or stakes on your wheels are also a nice touch. With these new additions, your car will be a force to reckon with on any terrain.

  • 4.     Gas Reserves
  • The apocalypse is going to mean a shortage of resources. Take the opportunity to prepare your car for this by making room for extra fuel reserves. Invest in a few extra portable gas tanks and siphon tubes. This will allow you to retrieve gas from abandoned vehicles if and when you run out of your own reserves.

You should also consider converting your trunk into a space for gas reserves. Stock up on fuel, and store it in your car for emergencies (like a zombie attack on your home). Then you won’t have to worry about running out of gas until you are clear of imminent danger.

  • 5.     Muffler Silencer
  • Finally, a good muffler silencer can be the difference between a stealthy drive through the metropolis at night and a full-on zombie chase—with you running/driving for your life.

You can buy a muffler silencer at most auto stores or online and install it yourself in about fifteen minutes. All you need is a power drill, screwdriver, and installation kit. Then simply line up the silencer with the muffler tip, adding holes with the drill, if necessary, and then secure the silencer with bolts using the screwdriver. Turn the car on to double check that it is working, and tighten the silencer again if you hear rattling.

Equipping your car with the right features is one of the best ways to prepare yourself for the zombie apocalypse. Because without a car to keep you alive, you might just end up as one of the walking dead.
