z-nationOkay, confession time for me: I’ve never been a huge fan of The Asylum’s films. Granted, they’ve had a good one every now and then (Alien Origin, for example), but for the most part their titles are just cheap remakes of box-office hits (yes, I’m talking about titles like Transmorphers). So when I heard the studio planned on doing a zombie TV show, I immediately assumed it would be a knock-off of The Walking Dead.

Imagine my surprise when it wasn’t. Imagine my even greater surprise when I watched it and fell in love with it.

That’s exactly what happened, too. I sat down to watch the pilot of Z Nation, expecting nothing…and was then blown away. The show, while not perfect, is very good, and I am very impressed with what The Asylum has accomplished. Z Nation is a heck of a series, and I’m hooked!

I had the opportunity to watch the first episode of season two, and I have to admit: The Asylum has really taken it up a notch. Season two picks up pretty quickly after the conclusion of the first, and things get going pretty quickly. I do not want to go into great detail, as I don’t want to spoil the surprise…but fans of the show will be very interested to see what develops.

Z Nation is a very pliable franchise for The Asylum and for Syfy, and I’m interested to see where it goes. The writing is strong, the acting is pretty good, and the special effects are great, especially when considering it doesn’t have near the budget of The Walking Dead. In short, this is one series zombie fans will want to take a bite of. Season two premieres September 11 on Syfy, so make a note!
