Quirk Books was recently kind enough to provide us with a review copy of Night of the Living Trekkies by Kevin David Anderson to review. Jealous? You should be! I’m half way done as I’m writing this and it’s great so far. However you don’t have to be! They were also kind enough to provide a second copy as well as 2 posters to give away in a contest! Oh yes the important part where we tell you how to actually win! The contest will run from today (September 1st) until this Sunday (September 5th) and the winners will be announced early next week!

5) Refer someone to follow Buy Zombie on Twitter and have them tweet: “@Buyzombie , @(your Twitter name here) had me follow you for undead trekkies!” [Max 20 Entries]
6) E-mail us at the contact page or by sending an e-mail to contact@buyzombie.com with your subject “Star Trek Contest” (other subjects will be ignored) and your name, e-mail, and postal address (also with any of the above 5 that you have done to help us keep it all sorted.) [1 Entry]

Thats a maximum of 50 entries per person. Holy hell are we making this complicated for me! (That’s why I’d love if you could include all of your entries in the e-mail to help keep it sorted. If not… well that’s my problem.)

Each entry will be assigned a number at which point we will lock you in a room with a random zombie to infect everyone and the last to survive is the winner. Wait. I mean a random number generator to choose two numbers from all of the entries to use as winners. If the same person comes up twice we’ll keep running it until we get a second winner.

I will announce the winners by the end of next week (day/time depending on how many entries there are.)

Trailer For The Dead Can’t Dance

Dax Wildhorse knew this wasn’t going to be a good day.

But it should have been. This was the day that he was driving his nephew, Eddie — who he has raised — off to college. Along with his brother — Eddie’s estranged father, Ray — the three of them pull into a Kansas rest stop, tired, hungry, lost.

And that’s when it happens. With a gust of wind, everyone around them suddenly drops dead. But they are somehow immune to what’s killing everyone. Is it because of their Native American blood? Is it because their people were here in the beginning and this is now the end?

But they don’t have time to ask questions. Stranded in the country, they encounter a strange survivor who blames everything on an alien invasion, and young Eddie becomes terribly ill. But that’s not the worst of their problems. As they take refuge in a remote school, the men encounter some weird people — really, really weird. Almost zombie-like, even.

As the modern-day warriors try to fight off the newly undead, they must put aside their differences to survive.

Because Dax was right. No, this wasn’t a good day at all. But will there be another?

George A. Romero to be Honored at ZomBcon 2010

ZomBcon has a fun announcement for those attending. On October 29th during the Opening Gala Film Ceremony honoring the bringing of the undead.

Every announcement I read about this convention makes me yearn to attend that much more and every announcement leaves me crushed that I’ll be unable to.

George will be honored with ZomBcon’s Golden George Award (gee who is it named after?) as well as have a retrospective of his career.

Happy Zombie Calendar Day!

What some of you may not know is July 15th is a national holiday in the United States! It’s Calendar Day! It’s a little known holiday that no one follows because I just made it up. The thing is though it is the day that a SLEW of calenders are released. So I am now turning this into Happy Zombie Calendar Day!

For the rest of the day all you will see here are the zombie themed calendar releases for 2011! YES! (Lazy editor… skimping on posts for the entire rest of the day by just posting calendars. You should be ashamed. ASHAMED AT HOW LAZY YOU ARE!)

Other important events of July 15th:

• 1353 – Vladimir the Bold, Russian prince (d. 1410 z. 1410)
• 1381 – John Ball, a leader in the Peasants’ Revolt, is hanged, drawn and quartered in the presence of Richard II of England. (Suspected of being a Zombie?!)
• 1799 – The Rosetta Stone is found in the Egyptian village of Rosetta by French Captain Pierre-François Bouchard during Napoleon’s Egyptian Campaign. (Later used to show zombies were once thought to be a curse from the Egyptian Gods.)
• 1838 – Ralph Waldo Emerson delivers the Divinity School Address at Harvard Divinity School, discounting Biblical miracles and declaring Jesus a great man, but not God. The Protestant community reacts with outrage. (Ralph also uses this time to claim Jesus was the first zombie.)
• 1888 – The stratovolcano Mount Bandai erupts killing approximately 500 people. (Fortunately it was later discovered that at least 300 of them were already dead and it helped prevent the spread of an outbreak.)
• 1927 – Massacre of July 15, 1927: 89 protesters are killed by the Austrian police in Vienna. (All 89 of them later returned from their graves.)
• 1955 – Eighteen Nobel laureates sign the Mainau Declaration against nuclear weapons, later co-signed by thirty-four others. (This is later ignored when we discover the wonderful effect of small nuclear warheads in cities overrun by the undead.)
• 1979 – U.S. President Jimmy Carter gives his famous “malaise” speech, where he characterizes the greatest threat to the country as “this crisis in the growing doubt about the meaning of our own lives and in the loss of a unity of purpose for our nation.” (He later uses a focus against zombies to give purpose to our nation.)
• 1983 – The Orly airport attack in Paris leaves 8 people dead and 55 injured. (Sadly the 30 of the 55 turned, eating the remaining survivors.)
• 1996 – A Belgian Air Force C-130 Hercules carrying the Royal Netherlands Army marching band crashes on landing at Eindhoven Airport. (The flight recorder’s last message was ‘bbrraaiinnss’)
• 2002 – “American Taliban” John Walker Lindh pleads guilty to supplying aid to the enemy and to possession of explosives during the commission of a felony. (He was used in experimentation on how long it takes one to turn into one of the undead.)
