The more I see about Zombie Roadkill the more I am getting excited to see it. It’s still hard to see one of the ’stars’ from Wings in serious rolls where he can play a deep and intelligent character. (Really a GREAT actor I just associate him with that roll.) That being the case this mini-series looks perfect for him! *ducks*

Sometimes I worry that we’re willing to promote all things zombies. At least their hearts are in the right place. I suppose you can’t judge a book by it’s cover though when one of the best indie zombie films of the last 10 years was by a girl in her early teens so we really are willing to give anything a shot! (But if it’s a miss we’ll of course be sure to tell you. No offense to these guys but it really doesn’t look up to the scripting level of Emily’s work. Only time will tell!)

Two boys who find themselves trapped in a small caravan during a zombie apocalypse. They plan a rout and run for there lives to get out of this caravan.

Dead State Information And Screenshots

Well there are Zombie themed first person shooters and 3/4th view games. There is not however a zombie themed RPG – until now! Well now being hopefully next year or whenever this game comes out.

About The Game

Dead State is a compelling, high-tension RPG set at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse – a deadly illness is rampaging through the world, turning those infected into the walking dead. As society is beginning to fall apart, the player must organize a scant handful of allies, working on fortifying a shelter, scouting for food and supplies, making uncertain alliances with others, and attempting to hold together a group as humanity teeters on the brink of extinction. RPS: Can you elaborate on your vision of zombies? What are you trying to evoke in the game? What kind of things have influenced you?

Brian Mitsoda: On paper, our zombies are really not supposed to be threatening. They’re dumb, they’re slow, they’re unorganized – your very basic shambling corpse. They’re only dangerous when you forget about them. Make too much noise, get cornered, ignore them – that’s when they get dangerous. Most games deal with a Night of the Living Dead scenario where you have to survive one night, one wave, one map. We’re dealing with a long-term zombie threat, where you have to worry about keeping people fed, friends getting bit and infected while scavenging, and the desperation of other human beings. Honestly, the game is not about the zombies, but about how people react to a crisis and what they are willing to do to other human beings and even members of their group to stay alive or protect their own. The zombies are just a cause, like economic collapse or a massive earthquake, and it’s really the human self-preservation instinct and the survivor mentality that we’re interested in portraying.

I think the interesting thing about a disaster is this mentality that everything is going to be okay – that “someone” is going to come in and save me, of course. This idea that as long as you aren’t in immediate danger, you can keep your head down and hope the problem will go away. We’re short-term thinking creatures and we don’t like to think of the big picture implications of our actions – global warming, borrowing money, cutting education/space spending. I think rationally we want to believe the governments of the world would mobilize quick enough to stop a zombie plague (only infected people rise from the dead in our game) but I think that generally we’re only mobilized when we are directly threatened. By the time people start to notice the dead walking in their neck of the woods, the problem has spread beyond containment. The zombies in Dead State are a faceless (sometimes literally) force and dealing with the zombie problem is a lot like waging a war on an ideal.

Well to start with you can see that they now have the fancy logo above as well as an official Zombie Hood Website to check out for the latest updates! Now onto other details:

August 31st News Update

• Last production meeting for August held on Sunday 22nd
• Location, Props and Continuity production team created
• October zombiefest event discussed
• Final members of the production team added
• A number of viral pieces have been filmed
• Visited Sherwood Forest to look at possible locations
• Finalised the casting list for auditions to be held on Saturday 4th September
• Next production meeting to be held on Sunday 12th September

Zombie Hood Production Information

Just a quick update for Zombie Hood.

We’re now at the auditions stage, with 32 hopefuls auditioning for lead and support
roles during early September.

The crew is now finalized and includes Tom Pykett, director of Dead Rain, who is
working as a cinematographer on the film; and a number of other talented young film
makers from the East Midlands (UK) joining the team.

We have a large effects and make up team that includes Steven Uden, well known in
the UK for various zombie roles in low budget films, Dan Brand an up and coming make
up and effects artist and Cat Mednick, who is currently working on prosthetics for
the ‘The Human Centipede II’.

One thing to note is that we won’t be using cgi for any of the effects. The team are
working to ensure everything that is seen on film is done in front of the camera. As
our actors won’t have any contact with the zombie hoard until their scenes, we
believe this will create a realistic feel of terror! And besides, if it was good
enough for Romero’s original Dawn of the Dead, it’s good enough for us.

We’re also arranging a zombie event for Halloween, to be staged in Nottingham. This
will include a zombie walk, make up and tips, a zombie disco and other fund raising
ideas for the film. I’ll forward further details as soon as they’re available.

Most of the film will be shot in Sherwood Forest, although we’ll also be using the
city centre and outlying areas.

Due to start filming during October 2010, we hope to have the film finished early 2012.

Zombie Hood is a very much back to basics movie, made by zombie fans for zombie fans
and although it’s low budget, we expect the final edit to be a full cinematic
experience!

The film also features slow and fast zombies, with a believable reason to include
both types.

We’ll provide further updates as soon as we begin filming in a few months time.

After gathering in a nearby forest and with food being in short supply, the survivors must risk visiting populated areas in an effort to stave off starvation.
