Hollywood-is-Dead Brings Us Summer Blockbuster Posters

Matt Busch is back with another round of amazing zombified movie posters. Ever since his work on the Zombie Wars (Star Wars spoof posters) he’s been doing originals of quite a few major motion pictures. To ring in the summon he’s going with a few blockbuster movies this time around, including the 2 pictured in this post! There is also a couple Lord of the Rings spoofs and a new Zombie Wars spoof. If you are a movie fanatic you are almost guaranteed to love his work!

Artist Matt Busch is about to unveil the fourth incarnation of Hollywood-is-Dead, a collection of hand-painted, re-imagined movie posters with a zombie twist. This time around, the series will focus on big-name blockbusters like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (Lara Crypt: Tomb Riser) The Sixth Sense (The Sick Sense) and The Shawshank Redemption (Shawshank Reanimated). “Summer is when all the studios release their big guns,” comments Busch, “so it’s perfect timing to pay homage to the wondrous posters that leave us in awe.”

Busch first made waves with his undead parodies in 2009 with Zombie Wars, a project authorized by Lucasfilm, repainting all 6 Star Wars movie posters with his decrepit vision. Media attention for the posters went as far as Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and G4TV. Since then, the outbreak expanded into an Online gallery, Hollywood-is-Dead.com, with over 40 posters, including Harry Potter (Scary Rotter), Toy Story (Toy Gory) and Breakfast at Tiffany’s (Breakfast is Tiffany).

For this latest series of zombified posters, Busch has returned to the roots that started it all; Star Wars. Busch explains, “When I illustrated the original set of Zombie Wars posters, I had no idea how big this was going to be, so I just picked my favorite poster images from the saga.” For Star Wars- Episode 4: A New Hope, Busch chose a rare poster image that Drew Struzan illustrated for the 10th Anniversary. “A lot of collectors loved what I did, but purists have been begging for the standard one-sheet that everyone knows. Thus, the Zombie Wars: A New Epidemic alternate version has now been infected.”

Also coming to light this summer is the complete Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Lord of the Rank: The Festering of the Rotten, The Tomb Towers, and Return from the Crypt). Busch also completes the previous Indiana Bones trilogy with the fourth installment based on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Busch chimes, “The original title is already so ridiculously long, so I had a lot of fun putting a spin on that. Plus, each sequel poster develops the undead evolution of its decrepit saga.”

In addition to the posters, Busch has recently struck a licensing deal with Fright-Rags to produce high quality full color shirts. Fright-Rags is known as the leader in horror apparel and has already released a shirt branding the art for Zombie Wars: The Living Dead Strike Back. As well, the Hollywood-is-Dead original paintings are exhibited in the ArtInsights Animation and Film Art Gallery in Reston, Virginia. Portions of the gallery sales are donated to the Nation Film Preservation Foundation. Gallery owner Leslie Combemale states, “Yes, these images are over-the-top, but they are also a love note from Matt to the original artists who created these classics and to the dying art used to make classic movie posters.”

Official Poster Art for REC Genesis and Apocalypse

So REC 1 and 2 have been a phenomenal success in the horror industry both in it’s home country and in the United States in both it’s original and remade form. With that being the case of course more entries into the franchise are on the way! However unlike many series they have a plan. There will only be 4 REC movies and the third will be called Genesis (a prequel to the series) while the 4th is called Apocalypse (a finale to send off the films in style.) These are the posters for the final 2 movies.

Zombieland Poster Revealed

While not completely new, the official poster for Zombieland has been released and is out for your viewing enjoyment and we haven’t had a chance to show it to you yet! If you don’t know about Zombieland yet you have to have been living under a rock! Movie Poster For Upcoming The Dead Can’t Dance

Harmy Films has recently released this poster for their upcoming flick, The Dead Can’t Dance which is described as- “Three Native American men discover they are somehow immune to a mysterious plague that is turning everyone else into zombies.”

For the full plot synopsis:

Dax Wildhorse knew this wasn’t going to be a good day.

But it should have been. This was the day that he was driving his nephew, Eddie — who he has raised — off to college. Along with his brother — Eddie’s estranged father, Ray — the three of them stop at a gas station to replenish more than their gas tank.

And that’s when it happens. With a gust of wind, everyone around them suddenly drops dead. But they are somehow immune to what’s killing everyone. Is it because of their Native American blood? Is it because their people were here in the beginning and this is now the end?

But they don’t have time to ask questions. Stranded in the country, young Eddie becomes terribly ill. And that’s not the worst of their problems. As they take refuge in a remote school, the men encounter some weird people — really, really weird. Almost zombie-like, even. And that’s not cool.

As these modern-day warriors try to fight off the newly undead, they must put aside their differences to survive. Because, as Dax said: No, this wasn’t a good day at all. But will there be another?
