Before, lets say, 1985, zombies were always slow moving and they always walked with a barreling sense of confusion, misplacement and horror. To the general public, zombies were terrifying and they posed more of a misjudged threat. The zombie would walk so slow, yet no matter how fast you run they still catch up to you because they are in fact like piranha… a few of them won’t kill you but once their numbers start growing around you, they are lethal. Back then, it was just scarier that something so innocent and so awkward could actually kill you. Films like Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Creeps and Zombi II sort of set the standard for modern zombies to walk slow.

Now, lets fast-forward to 1985 when a sequel of sorts to Night of the Living Dead was released in theaters called The Return of the Living Dead. This movie not only revolutionized the face of horror and culture but also the way that zombies would be looked at. Dan O’Bannon rethought the zombie mythology and gave zombies the power of reasoning, language, intelligence and movement. In this film, they talked and gave us a reason why they craved brains, they ran like maniacs after ‘fresh meat’ and they even manipulated cops into traps by using sex appeal. Thought it was controversial back then, people mostly passed it off as comedy. It wasn’t until 2004 when the zombie controversy blew out of proportion.

In the age of remakes, Zach Snyder decided to tackle a very well-loved zombie flick known as Dawn of the Dead and remade it into a fairly good movie. Though, it sparked hoards of controversy because of one simple thing… the zombies in this film run as though they were Olympic track runners and they jump on fences like monkeys. Synder took the slow dumbfounded zombies and turned them into a greater threat to humanity by making them more athletic and fast. In my opinion, he succeeded where others would fail.

See, the positive side of fast moving zombies is: they are even more of a threat to humans then slower zombies. Up until now, all you had to do was outrun them and pray that there weren’t that many after you… now, even if there are only 2 or 3, they’ll surely catch up to you and eat you. However, many directors took this surprise cultural hit one step further and thereby ruining the somewhat originality that Snyder had done. The dreaded remake of Day of the Dead, is one such film. Here, the zombies are steroid induced, energetic gymnast; not only do they run and spider-jump out of windows but they also scale walls and ceilings! This is completely unacceptable because when you are dead and after rigor mortis sets in, you’ll never be able to do anything like that and it turns the zombie lore into a laughing stock.

After that, fast zombies went downhill and directors started going the way of Day of the Dead (remake) by turning them into acrobats. Personally, nothing can ever beat the slow deceiving horror of slow movies zombies. To me, that’s the ultimate fear that you misjudge them and in turn, you lead to your own downfall and demise… not the zombie. However, if done right, I will enjoy running zombies but that’s on a rare occasion. If you enjoy the classic slow zombies, then I applaud you but if you enjoy the newer brand of muscle enhanced zombies… then good, the new generation of zombies are already starting to take over the horror culture.

What Happens When The Republicans Don’t Have A Candidate?

Well they bring one back from the dead of course. Undead Regan has risen from beyond the grave to attempt to lead the Republicans into a new era. Embracing change from science in an unprecedented manner they have a delegate that they know who can win- hell he has twice before. Returning from the grave gives Regan another shot at 2 terms in the White House as he has technically been born again, and not in the religious sense. Will he be able to beat out the Democratic nominee in the next Presidential campaign? Only time will tell.

Dead Rising 2 WILL Have Up To 6000 Zombies On Screen At Once!

Blue Castle Games, who is developing Dead Rising 2 for Capcom, let the world know something great at the 2009 Game Developer Conference. Something so outstanding it might be a little hard to believe. Dead Rising 2. WILL have up to 6,000 zombies on screen. 6000 Zombies. 6 THOUSAND ZOMBIES. Not only is this the most zombies that you will see on screen for a video game ever, this is also the largest amount of characters that has been shown on screen within a video game as well. This is at technical breakthrough and being done to support the greatness of zombies, or in this case slaying zombies. I seriously can NOT wait to be able to see this happen. I’m sure there won’t be that many zombies on screen throughout the entire game but the one or two areas that they take full advantage of being able to do this will be amazing to say the least.

The first piece of news is from Zombie Slash and is letting us know that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will be illustrated! Yes we’re getting an illustrated reconstruction of the ahem classic novel that will be zombified early next month! How early next month? Well…

The second piece of news was shown by everyone’s favorite Zombie Reporting Center and has given us the news that the release date itself was bumped up to April 13, 2009! I’m not sure how new this news is but the last time I had checked it was still a “bit” past the 13th for when it was due out. Soon we can all be reading this tale of love… and zombies. (Seriously I still believe this will be the ultimate movie to help more women fall into loving the Zombie sub-genre of horror.)

Dead of Night, initial casting and miscellanious information

The above video is NOT a trailer of the movie. It IS though an “animated” version of one of the Dylan Dog comics that the movie will be based on so might give you an idea of what to expect from the movie. (Obviously with live actors, special effects, and the writer and directors take on the plot. Dead of Night is a new film in the works based upon an old comic Dylan Dog. Dylan Dog, will be played by Brandon Routh of Superman fame, is a private detective who works with the occult. In this movie he will be apparently be fighting against both zombies and vampires. We’ll report more as we hear it!

Recently we talked about a Resident Evil Blood Drive. While it’s primary focus is “gamers giving blood” and doing well, you cannot be a fan of Resident Evil and not love zombies! Or possibly love to kill zombies, at any rate it’s a good view into the fact that gamers actually do care about more then sitting in front of our TV’s and computers. Pretty good clip on a variety of gamer interviews mashed together which is a fun watch. Obviously gamers who like zombies game care the most as they are willing to give their own blood! Realistically how many people out there will so enthusiastically do so too.

Director Announced For I Walked With A Zombie Remake

In 1943, RKO Pictures (who has been the source of remake central as of late) released I Walked With a Zombie, one of the most known and cherished classic zombie movies of all time. True to form the movie is now being modernized for audiences who can’t sit down to watch a black and white film with a lack of what would be considered special effects. Roseblood and Twisted Pictures have attached Adam Marcus to direct this film and I have to say I am a bit worried on their choice. With only 3 movies under his belt the only one that I’ve heard of and that is a horror movie is Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday one can’t help but wonder if he will be able to pull off remaking such a classic.
