REVIEW: It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Zombies! By Michael P. Spradlin illistrated by Jeff Weigel.
It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Zombies! is fun and exciting book to read while you’re in the holliday spirit. Michael P. Spradlin takes regular old Christmas carols and zombifies them. All of the holliday greats are here from Frosty the Snowman to Rudoulf the Red Nose Raindeer. The zombified version of I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause has to be the best writen carol in this collection. The melodies are not the same so it is hard to sing these new lyrics to the original ones.
There is no plot to this book, there are no characters. It’s just once carol after another, each with zombie mayhem. The book does get repetative meaning that the same words are used over and over again. It get’s dull as you reach the end of the book.
The best thing about this book, other then the zombie maddness, is the illistrations. Those are done by Jeff Weigel, who is someone i’ve never heard of. His illistrations to each song fit perfectly. Just to give you a taste of one of his illistrations, picture this. A zombie with a santa hat on is decorating a Christmas tree. The zombie is wraping something around the tree like Christmas lights… but they’re not lights. The zombie has his stomach wide open and it is wrapping his guts around the tree. In order to see this wonderful illistration you’ll have to pick yourself up a copy. I’m telling you though, Jeff Weigel must have a dementied mind to come up with that.
