REVIEW: The Walking Dead Volume 11: Fear The Hunters

Fear the Hunters us the eleventh volume by the amazing trio of Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, and Cliff Rathburn. After episode ten, some of you may have been—like me—a bit frustrated. It’s not that there needs to be rampant violence for the volume to be good, this series has proven that. Have no fear; Kirkman is back at full strength as a storyteller.

There is tension and inexplicable horror throughout. I only wish we have a bit more backstory on one particular avenue he chose to take us on. I understand the hint given in volume ten, but he could’ve used some of what I believe was wasted space to give us more.

Losses continue to mount for the leaderless band and zombies have stopped being the biggest threat. Of course, as fans of the genre we aren’t really surprised at this. Are we?

I am interested where he will take us. Kirkman can’t expect any of us to believe that Washington DC will provide any answers. I fully expect that avenue to lead us to a dead end. However, that begs the question: where will Kirkman take us? It’s no secret that he doesn’t want the story to end, but all but all the great ones do. (Lost, The Shield, Breaking Bad- eventually – and Monk.)

After volume ten, I honestly thought Kirkman might be losing his mojo. Fear the Hunters proves that to not be the case. Also, he has left us hanging with another brutal cliffhanger. I hope you all are as anxious as I am to see what happens next.

There is no doubt that this story still has legs. As I write this on a hot summer day, the NFL season has yet to begin and the television series has yet to debut. By the time you read it (like today) both of those events will have transpired. I have no hope for my beloved Seahawks, however, I have great expectations for the AMC series. Am I disappointed? You tell me.
