Game Review: Zombies Ala Mode – iPhone
Plants vs Zombies meets Scoops in Zombies Ala Mode for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. Play as a young hard working zombie trying to make a living in the ice cream business. Fill ice cream orders while dodging obstacles and try not to get fired. With three game modes, 50 levels, OpenFeint achievements, leaderboards, and lots of upgrades in career mode, you will enjoy hours of zombie goodness.
Summary
4/5 – While there were many parts which frustrated me about this game (mainly playing on a small iPhone screen, I’m sure the iPad version is much more rocking!), I found it funny & cute enough to still claim a good review.
Controls
5/5 – The first thing I did in this game when I realized the controls were primarily based on phone-tilting, is I upped the sensitivity of my iPhone. After the first two levels of uncontrollably rolling around the screen, unable to catch a cold yet alone a scoop of falling ice cream, I promptly moved the sensitivity slider back down. Play with it a little, and you will surely enjoy this game’s operation. There are a few levels with tapping involved in combination with sliding (the bug levels), and tapping to finish off a customer request in the main portion of the game, but the real trick is knowing how to slide across the screen. You’ll love getting into it.
Graphics
4/5 – Cute, colorful, and easy to please ages 4 through 84. Any older is pushing it!
Sound
4/5 – The sounds and music happily go with the graphics, for all ages.
Story
2/5 – You’re a teenage zombie looking for a summer job, and you land employment working less than minimum wage at an ice cream shop, where there’s an even amount of ice cream being thrown at you as there are random objects which will cause you to drop your loot. I felt the amount of things being flung in your direction made the game steadily difficult to play in the earlier levels when players are trying to learn the game, but it rounds out a bit in the later levels when the speed is much faster.
Replay Value
4/5 – This game will last you plenty long as there are 50 levels to run through, as well as a leader board for competitive players.
Pricing
4/5 – Currently 99-cents in the app store, I find it to be pretty worth while so long as you can hold in the frustrations of spilled ice cream!
