Review: Zombie Highway
With the pedal to the floor you swerve around the wrecked cars that are strewn along the highway. Your passengers reload as you use the side of an overturned pickup truck to dislodge a zombie who is clinging to the side of your SUV. The satisfying thud bringing a smile to your face as the rotting thing is tossed into the street behind you and rolls out of sight in the rearview mirror.
Unfortunately, there is no time to relax because as soon as you dispatch one zombie two more take it’s place…
That is the chaos that waits for you in Renderpaz’s Zombie Highway. At only $.99 in the Apple Store it is a steal, and at less than 15MB you don’t need a WIFI connection to start enjoying all the zombie killing action contained within.
The objective is simple, chose a difficulty, chose your guns and drive as far as you can before the hordes of the undead overturn your car and eat you…sounds easy right? Wrong! At first it is, but the further you drive the stronger the zombies get, some even regain health, and the more congested the road gets.
But fear not, with the newest update you can chose between two new cars (a faster SUV and a military Hummer) and unlock new weapons (harpoon gun anyone?) to assist in the zombie slaughter. There are also two new levels to test your skill.
Graphics 5/5
The behind the car view allows you to really take in the action as zombies launch themselves at your vehicle. the detail in the little things really shows through, from the blood splatter after a killing shot to the underside of your car after the undead manage to flip you and ruin your escape. It all comes alive on the iPhones retina display.
Sound 5/5
The developers didn’t think about a cool soundtrack to play as you leisurely drive down the road… They focused on what matters in a game like this, guns and the sound of rotten zombie flesh bouncing off the road. The sound of metal on metal as you drag the side of your SUV down a overturned semi followed my the wet thump of flesh also meeting that same semi is a happy sound… It sounds like winning.
Controls 5/5
This is the part I love about Zombie Highway…the controls. They are simple, they are effective, and they WORK. Steering is done by simply tilting your device left and right and the angle of the tilt controls how fast you turn. Shooting is done by tapping one of four red indicators that appear on your screen reflecting a zombies position on your vehicle. Tap until you can find a car to sideswipe or until the zombies head pops in a spray of blood your choice! Either way.
