Usually we try not to show off other sites interviews unless they are one specifically done to be posted elsewhere. This one though was too good to pass up! FEARnet interviewed Robert Kirkman recently and found out his top 5 zombie films of all time! Yes the creator of The Walking Dead has wracked his brains to give his fans the top zombie films of all time! (In his mind at least.)

1.) Day of the Dead. It’s got the coolest story. I like the fact that they’re in this bunker. I like how bleak it is. I think it’s got the best effects. The intro, the opening scene… I mean, honestly, Day of the Dead really is the closest thing to what I wanted, which made me do The Walking Dead. It is a zombie movie that starts very late in the progression, and shows how people have been dealing with this for a very long time, and just kind of advances the story of the zombie apocalypse quite a bit. So I would have to say The Walking Dead itself comes from that desire to see how someone lives long term, and where they go and how they continue to survive. I think Day of the Dead really is the movie that kind of started that.

2.) Shaun of the Dead,

3.) Night of the Living Dead,

4.) the original Dawn of the Dead, so there are definitely all of the Romero movies up there. And then

5.) is a toss-up between the remake of Night of the Living Dead, directed by Tom Savini and starring Tony Todd, and the Zack Snyder Dawn of the Dead remake. I think those are both really awesome.

Clearly Romero has been an influence on Kirkman with how much of his world is written but now we know to a greater extent which film in particular inspired him to The Walking Dead and why!
