I normally start my game reviews with a catchy introduction to draw in the reader, i try to paint a scenario of the feel of a game. However, I don’t really know how to do that with this review. The story is not really gripping, the characters are not really interesting…. But the game is fun and challenging so it keeps me coming back for more.
The game is called “Corpse Granny HD” and is brought to us by the developers over at Bulkypix. It is an addictive puzzle game where you simply swipe your finger and tilt your device to cut a “string” and send a mystical glowing orb on its way bouncing across the screen to hit and thus eliminate the zombies scattered across the level. It is a more or less a combination of “Cut the rope” from Chillingo, Angry Birds from Rovio Mobile Ltd., and zombies. It costs 2.99 for the IPad version which is HD, or .99 for the standard iPhone/iPod Touch version.
I have reviewed the IPad version here.
Graphics 5/5
The Graphics are awesome, the colors are bright yet still have a dark tone to them. Each zombie has its own death animation When struck with the glowing orbs.
Sound 3/5
the soundtrack is an upbeat kinda jazzy riff that sets the tone for your zombie slaying (if you can call it that) action. All the elements work together to create a good game, however the same song over and over tends to drive me crazy.
Gameplay 4/5
The control scheme is simple, swipe to cut the strings and send your orbs on their way to destroy the zombies. The gameplay is challenging enough to keep you busy yet easy enough that you won’t pull your hair out trying to reach the next level. The only real drawback is if you get stuck you can’t skip and come back later, it is either beat the level or keep trying until you do. You have the option to buy a bomb with real money that allows you to skip a level but I refuse to waste money like that.
Replay ability 3/5
Once you beat the game it is pretty much done, there is no real replay ability unless you want to try and max out your score on previous levels. This makes the game kind of a once through and you are done experience which is sad.
Available on iTunes
About the replayability, you forgot to check out the Level Editor feature which allows you to play virutually unlimited amounts of levels once you finish the main level packs 🙂
