Will they make it to safety? Will Robin be able to overcome her guilt? Who will survive the rising of the dead?

Our ‘A Taste of You’ Review

A Taste of You by Angela Meadon is a little different than the average zombie story. Sure, there are zombies, the mobile dead, the undead, or whatever convenient label you want to tag them with but, this is more of a self-torment type novel. Robin, the main character of A Taste of You, is tormented by visions of her younger brother, Jessie whom she feels responsible for. Of course an older sibling feels responsible for a younger one, but in Robin’s case, she’s feels and may actually be, responsible for the death of Jessie.

Yeah, that’s a big issue right there.

Robin is troubled by the visions she has of dead Jessie that appears in the back seat of her car, in the mirror, in her dreams and other really convenient locations. She is tormented by these visions because she had a beer then drove Jessie home from a swim meet. That unto itself is not the main issue, the main issue is on that trip home, they were involved in an accident that resulted in Jessie’s death. Since that time, Robin has been having the visions of a dead Jessie coming for her. Toss in a zombie apocalypse and you have an incredibly well developed character that has to undergo a personal journey.

All that philosophical rhetoric is not that obvious within the story. Sure, it’s there but the primary plot revolves around survival for the most part. As one of the few novels that I’ve read that didn’t take place in Canada or the US, A Taste of You captured my interest and held it until the end.

However, that ending was a little abrupt in my opinion and maybe it could have been a little more ‘fleshed’ out so to speak.

A Taste of You is an enticing novel about self-recrimination, survival, family, and life in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse.
