While I haven’t had a chance to read it I’ve heard nothing but good things about Koji Aihara’s zombie manga Z. So with it being a fun read it would appear that Norio Tsuruta (Ring 0: Birthday, Orochi: Blood) thinks it would be fun to watch too and will be directing a live version. For those familiar with Japanese actors the cast includes Mayu Kawamoto, Noriko Kijima, and Miharu Tanaka. The film itself will open in Tokyo’s Cinemart Roppongi and other theaters throughout Japan.
The plot itself takes place in contemporary Japan after a zombie outbreak has occurred. There are a slew of short stories that take place in this world but the main first one takes place in the world of the zombie extermination police force. Will that be who we’ll be following in the film? It’s unsure for now but it seems like a good jumping in point if there ever was one.
Not only will it be a movie but a number of episodes are being produced alongside the movie, and the entire project will then be released across six DVD volumes. It sounds to be large enough that the first two volumes will have the main film itself, and the remaining four volumes will include the linked episodes. NICE!
