So a couple small things happened this past week that don’t really merit separate articles.

First off, if you’re hoping for a physical copy on release day, you may have to wait if you don’t live in North or South America. If you do live in the Americas, then don’t worry, but if you live pretty much anywhere else, you’ve got to buy digital or wait a month before you can get it.

As a direct result of this, the “Be the Zombie” part of the game (where you can invade other people’s games as a super-powerful zombie trying to kill them) is now free to everybody who buys the game, and not just pre-orders. (I applaud this, since I was against it being pre-order only.) Also, people who actually pre-order the physical copies will also be getting even more DLC as a further apology.

Second, Dying Light has released a companion app for iOS and Android devices. It’s free, which is good because there’s not much to it, really. I would hesitate to call it a “game”. You send runners out on missions and if they’re skilled enough in either running or fighting they won’t die. They bring back supplies and you can then send those supplies to yourself in the actual Dying Light game. Apparently this lets you get crafting materials and even weapons as you progress to help you out while you play Dying Light.

So, that’s it. It’s been a wild and crazy ride getting to this point. This has easily been one of the biggest and craziest video game media blitzes I’ve ever kept track of. Tomorrow we’ll see if it’s been worth it or if it’s another major dud. I really, sincerely hope Dying Light is a great game. It has a decent, if not perfect pedigree, and everything I’ve seen looks good, but everything I’ve seen has basically amounted to a gigantic trailer, and those are notoriously untrustworthy. Time will tell.

Dying Light has a digital worldwide release of tomorrow, the 27th, and North and South America are getting physical copies the same day. Feel free to buy it at Amazon.
