In order to prepare for the end of the world, you have probably stayed pretty busy buying supplies for your bug out bag, purchasing items for your massive stockpile and reading up on how to spot a zombie from a distance. Speaking of zombies, when the proverbial you-know-what hits the fan and you have to defend your family from an army of the undead, you need to be ready.
A great way to prepare yourself to be an avid and adept zombie hunter is by taking up some hobbies that will give you the skills you need to take on even the nastiest horde of the undead.
Paintball
The skills that you learn from paintball can easily be transferred over to battling zombies. As a major bonus, there are around 2,000 fields in the United States where you can go to practice, and this doesn’t count the zillions of indoor paintball facilities. As Men’s Fitness notes, a lot of the gear that you use playing paintball is what you will don when the zombies are headed to your neighborhood, so it will give you practice becoming a trained marksman while wearing huge and cumbersome goggles. Paintball also teaches you to be highly alert at all times, and to be on the lookout for structures and objects that you can use as cover. It also helps you to learn how not to rely on these bunkers and other hiding places for too long—after all, if you know they are there, the zombies will come to find you there too.
Hunting
To survive an onslaught of zombies, you’re gonna have to be pretty good with a gun. A great way to get this experience is by taking on hunting as a hobby. In addition to giving you much-needed practice at shooting a gun at moving targets, learning to hunt will also help to provide your family with food in a post-apocalyptic world. While all bets will be off in regards to hunting licenses once the end of the world is underway, while you are in training, you definitely want to get all of your permits. Fortunately, getting your hunter’s license is now easier than ever, thanks to online hunter education resources. You can read up on the rules and regulations from the comfort of your home base and then apply for your state-specific hunter’s license right on the website.
Martial Arts
As Survival Life recommends learning the basics of self defense, and notes that it could really help you out during a zombie attack. Yes, knowing how to shoot at the undead is definitely important, but to boost your self-defense plan further, you should know what to do if and when you ever find yourself to be unarmed. You can sign up for adult martial arts groups in your town or see if a community center or even the local police department holds classes on self defense.
Basic First Aid
In order to be at your best as a zombie hunter, you have to be sure that you and your loved ones are well taken care of. Should you or your family members become injured, you need to have some basic First Aid skills under your belt to properly care for them. After all, you won’t be a very effective zombie hunter if you have an undressed cut or if you are worrying about your injured child. Many local chapters of the American Red Cross teach really helpful and comprehensive First Aid courses that include CPR. Sign up for one now and learn what to do later when the zombies are in full attack mode.
