AshVsEvil

So DreadCentral.com snagged a pretty awesome interview with Bruce Campbell, and it’s got some rather juicy tidbits in it about the upcoming series, Ash vs Evil Dead.

First off, so far only ten episodes have been ordered by Starz, but Campbell and Raimi are working on an “epic tale” and planing on the “big picture”, which means five seasons. So as long as people keep watching it, then we’re looking at around 50 episodes, potentially.

Campbell will obviously be reprising his role as Ash, though much older and traumatized. Hey, as badass as Ash is, 34 years of wandering around, running from and fighting deadites would traumatize anybody. Ash will be joined by at least two sidekicks and each will have their own “series of missions”, hinting at the previously mentioned “epic tale”.

Finally, Campbell sparked off a bit of friendly rivalry with Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman by simultaneously acknowledging The Walking Dead’s importance and declaring the superiority of Deadites over slow, Romero-style zombies.

Campbell offered, “We are competitive with ‘The Walking Dead,’ like, ‘We’ll show those fuckers!’ [Our] Deadites are very clever. They’re not stupid shufflers. They can mimic people; they can drive cars. They’re a fun threat. They [‘The Walking Dead’] are right up there [though] with being responsible for the current resurgence [of horror].”

Kirkman responded to the boast, as can be seen in this brief Twitter exchange. I think we can all agree that a rivalry between the creators of Evil Dead and The Walking Dead can only be a good thing.
