REVIEW: Dr. Dale’s Zombie Dictionary: The A-Z Guide to Staying Alive by: Dr Dale Seslick
Dr Dale’s Zombie Dictionary: The A-Z Guide To Staying Alive is a complete trainwreck of a book but not in a bad way! It’s one of those trainwrecks that are carefully orchestrated to keep giving us information in a mix of things that could be useful in an actual zombie outbreak to the completely rediculous. It’s a downward spiral into madness that anyone who appreciates zombies, horror, and humor will absolutely love. The dictionary goes from Aardvark to Zoos and covers everything of importance that deals with the zombie outbreak inbetween!
Dr Dale is one of the top researchers in the field of Zombology and has been working feverishly to impart his knowledge onto the world. While this isn’t a survival guide as we’ve often covered before it does have some similar context to survival guides. It’s more of a collection of tips on ways to live through the outbreak then an exact path to follow. It’s really all about common sense on this one, at least until it gets to the absurd (ie: zombies using Kangeroos as a source for travel.) On the common sense side of things it absolutely covers things people should and shouldn’t do.
The art itself really stands out in the book. All of it just matches in with the story being told and does so in a way that you are going to crack up with each piece that you see. The humor found within is both a mix of British and American humor and even if you aren’t a fan of one you will enjoy the other as it IS just funny all the way through.
This is a book you are going to want to share with your friends and family that love the genre. In fact many of the quotes found within you’ll know plenty of people that will appreciate who even don’t like zombies or horror. It’s just a great combination of being that well written and a laugh a minute. While with zombies it does have a focus of horror on it (I mean it is zombies) the main focus is just to keep you entertained and it does it’s job. I really can’t stress enough that the book IS funny.
As it’s not a direct guide on how to stay alive it’s hard to really go into detail on the review. It’s done as a dictionary so it’s in alphabetical order on topics you should know about that are zombie related. In fact it’s done so well even my dog liked it! (Well she liked the 8 pages she damaged while going after a stuffed zombie pig that I had laying on top of the book at one point.. fortunately I had already finished it so I wasn’t missing anything. She really did a GREAT job at chewing it up so even the paper must be well put together!)
