Game Review: Zombie Wonderland – iPhone

Load up your weapons, grab your mop and prepare to blast the Zombie pests clean out of town!

Summary

3/5 – While fun and new at first, I found the 4 levels (with 5 sections a piece) became redundant after some time. Challenges seemed to lie in having a longer building to defend (with a wall obstacle), throwing more/tougher zombies at you, some of which have abilities to damage you from outside, through walls.

As always, take my individual scores and set a total score based on what you’re into. If you’re a lover of zombie movies with really bad story lines and that doesn’t bother you, then don’t mind my low grade in that area.

Controls

4/5 – The ability to rotate the map around was really nice, albeit I found myself staying stationary most of the time, with maybe 3 rotates per level. Also, I would accidentally move my character next to a zombie instead of shooting it, or mop the floor instead of shooting out of the window, but hey, it’s all about challenge right? Overall the controls were simple to use, just beware of where you tap. This issue would possibly be alleviated when using an iPad with the larger screen.

Graphics

3/5 – Some of the animations were a bit undetailed, reminding me of early video games where characters had blocks for hands.

Sound

3/5 – No outstanding music soundtrack, and the firing of the shotgun will eventually annoy you. I can’t get the “ooh, grannies!” out of my head, either, but there are a few quirky catch phrases thrown in if you listen closely.

Story

2/5 – Zombies attack building. Man with shotgun (unlimited ammo) defends home, and ensures the mess is cleaned up after. There’s a few words of dialog between the four sections of the game.

Replay Value

4/5 – Once the game ends, you’re free to re-do any levels over again. There really is no point outside of a higher score. Also, there is a “Survival” to play once you finish off with the “Story” mode. Being that the game is somewhat fun to play from time to time after you’ve beaten it, I gave this area a higher score.

I also feel as if a sequel should be released, and allow movement outside of the confines of a zombie-overrun dwelling.

Pricing

4/5 – As of this write-up, you can snag this game for 99 cents (which is half off). Based on the reduction, the game is definitely worth the price of a cheap fast food cheeseburger. Which may or may not contain undead meat particles, passed off as “beef”. Available at iTunes.
