Since pre-history, the living dead have been among us, with documented outbreaks from ancient Babylon and Rome right up to the present day. But what if we were to suffer a zombie apocalypse in the UK today?

Through meticulous research and field work, the Official Zombie Handbook (UK) is the only guide you need to make it through a major zombie outbreak in the UK, including:

• Full analysis of the latest scientific information available on the zombie virus, the living dead creatures it creates and most importantly, how to take them down–UK style
• Everything you need to implement a complete “90 day zombie survival plan” for you and your family including home fortification, foraging for supplies and even surviving a ghoul siege.
• Detailed case studies and guidelines on how to battle the living dead, which weapons to use, where to hide out and how to survive in a country dominated by millions of bloodthirsty zombies.

Packed with invaluable information, the genesis of this handbook was the realisation that our country is sleep walking towards a catastrophe–That is the day when an outbreak of zombies will reach critical mass and turn out green and pleasant land into a grey and shambling wasteland.

Remember, don’t become a cheap meat snack for the zombies!
Ministry of Zombies

To begin this review, I want to say that this is nothing like the Zombie Survival Guide by zombie super giant, Max Brooks. The Official Zombie Handbook is mainly focused on the UK, but a lot of the material therein is internationally friendly. Sure, there are sections that involve detailed and elaborate explanations as to how some of Britain’s military forces would deal with the zombie plague, such as MI6 and the RAF. Even though these are British forces, some of the issues drawn about them (such as fuel, supplies and how the military training would fare against the undead) have strong similarities of how the U.S and Canadian militaries would compare against the undead.

One of aspects that made this book intriguing was that it delved into some of the social factors of a zombie apocalypse, including the crime underbelly of Britain. He goes into critical detail about how society would properly react to the zombie uprising, and he does it quite effectively. The entire planning of this book was well organized and formatted. I also enjoyed how it was written. Sean Page nailed the instructional form of writing but he also managed to target some of the more personally aspects of the zombie apocalypse, such as protecting ones family and so on. The Zombie Survival Guide was a good book, but it lacked a lot of personal contact with the reader (at least that’s what I thought anyways) but The Official Zombie Handbook had some personal elements that made it a little bit more of a reliable book than that of Brooks’.

Sean Page’s outline for a “90 day zombie survival plan” is excellently execute and intelligently thought out, with elaborate justifications and clear cut instructions. Sean Page doesn’t just tell you what is the best thing to do, he shows you it. He doesn’t ask you to take his word for it, he displays to the reader how and why certain weapons, foods and decisions would be more beneficial than others. He creates a list of weapons and goes into thorough detail about how these weapons fare against the undead individually and comparatively. For example, a baseball bat might be a good zombie weapon, but compared to a hatchet I might as well be slapping a zombie with a piece of bacon. Also, he gives the reader a very informative diagram of what foods would be the best to stock up on, including data on the food’s specific shelf life. I was very impressed with that aspect of the food and it made it stand out from all the other guides in a great way.

Overall: This is a very damn good Zombie survival guide; but also, it serves well as a good guide for any type of disaster, especially the “90 day plan” section of the book. This book is a well-rounded, perfectly written and exceedingly informative book on all things zombie survival. Also, at the end of the book, there’s a recommended list of survival books that is quite extensive. This is one heck of a zombie survival book and I thoroughly enjoyed it from front to back. I recommend this to anybody who enjoys a good zombie read and anybody who prefers not to die a horribly gruesome death when Z-Day comes.
